Thinking About Veneers?! Here's What They Actually Do

Thinking about dental veneers and wondering what they actually do? 🦷
In this video, Dr Soo Peng Ru from Dental Designs Clinic in Singapore explains what dental veneers are, who they may be suitable for, and how veneer cases are planned using a facially driven approach.

Dental veneers are thin ceramic shells bonded to the front surface of the teeth. They can help improve the:

✔️ Shape of the teeth
✔️ Colour of the teeth
✔️ Size and proportions of the teeth
✔️ Overall balance of your smile

🖥️ Technology used in veneer planning
To plan veneers more accurately, the clinic uses:

✔️ Intraoral scans
✔️ 3D X-rays
✔️ RayFace facial scans

👀 Smile trial before you commit

A key part of the process is the smile trial. A temporary mock-up is made from the digital design, so you can preview the proposed smile in real life and review the look and fit before committing to treatment.

If you’re considering dental veneers in Singapore, a consultation can help determine whether veneers are the right option for your teeth, bite, and smile goals. More about veneers here: https://www.dentaldesigns.com.sg/en-sg/services/veneers

Dental Implants Procedure Explained: The Entire Treatment Schedule

Thinking about getting a dental implant but unsure what the procedure involves? 🦷

What are dental implants?
In this video, Dr Darrell Ong from Dental Designs Clinic in Singapore explains the typical dental implant journey, from the first consultation to the final crown placement.

Dental Implant Procedure.
Let's find out more about the dental implant stages proper:
🦷 First Visit: Dental Implant Consultation
The first visit usually involves a consultation and a 3D CBCT scan (cone beam CT). This scan helps the dentist assess:
✔️ Bone thickness and height
✔️ Available space for the implant
✔️ The most suitable implant size and position

🦷 Second visit: Dental Implant Surgery
The implant is placed during a surgical procedure done under local anesthesia or IV sedation for patients with dental anxiety.

🦷 Third Visit: Healing and Integration
About two weeks after surgery, stitches are removed and healing is reviewed.

🦷 Fourth Visit: Implant Crown Planning
Once healing is confirmed a few months later, a digital scan of the mouth is taken to fabricate the final restoration (eg. dental crown, bridge or denture) that will sit on top of the implant.

🦷 Fifth Visit: Final Tooth Placement
The final implant restoration is placed and adjusted so that:
✔️ The bite is comfortable
✔️ The colour matches your natural teeth
✔️ The tooth looks and functions naturally

🦷 From sixth visit onwards: Reviews/Follow Ups
Your dentist will review the implant to ensure:
• The implant is stable
• The gum tissues are healthy
• You are able to clean the area well

Dental implants are designed to replace missing teeth and restore chewing function, and proper follow-up helps maintain long-term health around the implant.

Dental Crown Materials: Which Type Is Right for You?

Need a dental crown and not sure what it is, or which material to choose? 🦷
In this video, Dr Dustin Lee from Dental Designs Clinic in Singapore explains what crowns do, when you might need one, and the common crown materials available today, including the option of same day crowns using a digital workflow.

🦷 What is a dental crown?
A crown is like a protective jacket for a tooth. It helps restore and protect teeth that are:
✔️ Severely broken down
✔️ Damaged from a large cavity
✔️ Worn down from grinding or heavy bite forces
✔️ Cracked or fractured

🧱 Common types of dental crown materials

✅ Zirconia crowns
• Strong and fracture-resistant
• Often suitable for back teeth and people who grind

✅ Lithium disilicate crowns (Ceramic crowns)
• More lifelike appearance compared with zirconia in many cases
• Bondable (can be glued on), which may allow a more conservative preparation

✅ Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns
• A more traditional option
• Consists of a strong metal core and a tooth-coloured porcelain outer layer

✅ Gold crowns
• Provides optimal fit and is kind to opposing teeth

🖥️ Same day crowns (digital workflow)
Our digital workflow and in-house lab allow for same day crowns where design, fabrication, and placement are completed all in one day.

White Spots on My Teeth?! ICON Resin Infiltration Explained

Noticed white spots on your teeth and wondering what they are, and how to remove them?

In this video, Dr Amanda-Mae Nguee from Dental Designs Clinic in Singapore explains the two common causes of white spots, and a minimally invasive option to reduce their appearance.

🦷 Common causes of white spots on teeth

1. Fluorosis stains
These happen during tooth development when fluoride is ingested (for example from water or toothpaste), and it becomes incorporated into the tooth. This can create a white, chalky or cloudy look on the enamel.

2. White spot lesions after braces (post-orthodontic)
These can occur around brackets of your braces when plaque builds up and bacteria weaken the enamel over time. The enamel becomes more porous, which can leave permanent white spots after braces are removed. In some cases, these areas can progress into cavities.

✅ How to treat white spot lesions (without drilling in many cases)
A treatment called resin infiltration can help reduce the appearance of white spots by:
• Using a gel to reveal the porous area
• Infiltrating a clear resin into the tooth structure
• Helping the white spot blend in with the surrounding enamel

For many patients, this is:
✔️ Minimally invasive
✔️ Often done in one visit
✔️ Usually no drilling
✔️ Often no anesthesia needed

Do You Have an Underbite? What You Need to Know About Invisalign

Do you think you might have an underbite? 🦷
An underbite happens when the lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth, and it can affect more than just your appearance.

In this video, Dr Tiffany Tan from Dental Designs Clinic in Singapore explains what an underbite is, what causes it, and how treatments like Invisalign may help correct it.

🦷 What is an underbite?
An underbite occurs when the lower jaw or teeth extend beyond the upper teeth.

🧬 What causes an underbite?
Underbites can develop for different reasons, including:

✅ Genetics (family history plays a big role)
✅ Facial or jaw injuries
✅ Trauma affecting tooth position

🦷 Can Invisalign help fix an underbite?
In some cases, clear aligners can help by:

✔️ Gradually moving teeth into better alignment
✔️ Improving bite function
✔️ Reducing strain on the jaw
✔️ Enhancing comfort and appearance

However, not all underbites are the same. Treatment depends on jaw position, tooth alignment, and severity.

📍 When should you see a dentist?
If you suspect you have an underbite, it is recommended to get an assessment. Early treatment can help prevent future pain, wear, and complications. Learn more about Invisalign here: https://www.dentaldesigns.com.sg/en-sg/services/invisalign-plus

Have a Cracked Tooth? Here’s How Dentists Fix Them | SAVE THE TOOTH SERIES

Got a cracked tooth and wondering if it can still be saved? 🦷
In this video, Dr Bernard Siew from Dental Designs Clinic in Singapore explains how teeth crack, how to tell the severity of the crack, and what treatment may be needed to protect the tooth before it gets worse.

🦷 How bad is your cracked tooth?
A simple way to think about it is: is it painful?
✅ Not painful

This may be a small chip (enamel only). In many cases, it can be left alone, smoothed, or repaired with bonding (composite filling). In some cases, a small ceramic filling may also be used for coverage.

⚡ Sharp “zing” or electric shock feeling when biting
This can mean the crack is deeper and the tooth needs attention quickly. The goal is to protect the tooth early, before the crack gets worse or the tooth splits.

❌ Tooth split in half
Unfortunately, when a tooth fully splits, it often can’t be saved. This is why early treatment matters.

👑 When is a crown needed?
If the crack is getting deeper, a crown may be recommended to “cap” the tooth and help stop it from splitting further. Find out more about crowns: https://www.dentaldesigns.com.sg/en-sg/services/dental-crowns

🧠 When is a root canal needed?
Sometimes a crown protects the tooth structure, but the nerve may still be affected. If pain continues, a root canal treatment may be required.

Read more about root canal treatment on our website: https://www.dentaldesigns.com.sg/en-sg/services/root-canal-treatment

🚨 Key takeaway
If you suspect a crack or you feel pain when biting, seek urgent attention to avoid the crack worsening. Learn more about teeth cracking: https://www.dentaldesigns.com.sg/en-sg/articles/teeth-grinding-cracked-tooth\

Full Mouth Rehabilitation for Damaged Teeth — What Happens?

Have severe tooth wear, gum disease, or multiple dental problems and wondering what treatment is needed?

Some patients experience ongoing pain, difficulty chewing, or dental issues that cannot be fixed with fillings alone. In these cases, a dentist may recommend full mouth rehabilitation.

In this video, Dr Maria Raskina from Dental Designs Clinic explains what full mouth rehabilitation is, who may need it, and how treatment is planned.

In this video, you’ll learn:

🦷 What full mouth rehabilitation means and why it is used for complex dental problems
🦠 Why dentists first focus on treating tooth decay and gum disease before rebuilding the teeth
😬 Who may need full mouth rehabilitation, including patients with severe tooth wear, bite collapse, or teeth that cannot be saved
🛠️ What treatments may be involved, such as crowns, orthodontics, dental implants, or bite reconstruction
💻 How dentists use X-rays, scans, and digital planning to design the final result before treatment starts
⏳ How long full mouth rehabilitation can take, and why timelines vary depending on braces, implants, or surgery
👩‍⚕️ Why every full mouth rehabilitation treatment plan is customised for each patient

Key takeaway:
The goal of full mouth rehabilitation is to restore function and manage long-term dental problems by carefully planning treatment based on how much tooth structure remains and what caused the damage.

If you have ongoing tooth pain, worn teeth, gum disease, or have been told you need multiple dental treatments, a comprehensive dental assessment can help clarify your options.

Pain in Back Teeth? You Might Need A Root Canal Treatment

Wondering what happens during root canal treatment for back teeth? 🦷
In this video, Dr Elyssa Yap, a root canal specialist at Dental Designs Clinic in Singapore, explains why molars and premolars commonly need root canal treatment and why these teeth are more complex to treat than front teeth.

🦷 Why back teeth need root canal treatment

Your back teeth (premolars and molars) are used for grinding and chewing, which means they experience heavy forces over time. Common reasons they may need root canal treatment include:
✔️ Cracks that develop from wear and tear
✔️ Deep decay or old fillings that go unnoticed
These cause bacteria to reach the nerve canal and then, tooth infection and toothache.

🔍 Why root canal treatment for molars is more complex

Compared to front teeth, back teeth:
🦷 Are harder to access due to limited accessibility
🦷 Have multiple root canals (often 2 to 4 or more)
🦷 Contain narrow, curved, or hidden canals that are difficult to clean
